Its importance has been recognised in several ways: it became a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1962, joined the National Register of Historic Places in 1976, and was designated a Historic Site by the Daughters of the American Revolution in 2010. ### Discovery Science Place

Among its features are a mock television news station with working cameras and a small control board, physics exhibits and a kinetic sculpture. There is also a fish tank with goldfish, an indoor artificial cave containing rock and sediment exhibits, and an earthquake simulator. A fossil dig pit gives younger visitors the chance to search for prehistoric discoveries, while a scale-model display presents public buildings.

### Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception

Built in 1934 in the Spanish Colonial style, the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception is the principal church and seat of the Diocese of Tyler. It became the bishop’s seat in 1987, when the Diocese of Tyler was established. Before that, it served as a parish church.

Its architectural style gives the cathedral a distinctive presence in Tyler, while its role makes it a central place of worship for Catholics in East Texas.

### Liberty Hall

### Marvin Methodist Episcopal Church, South

The original parts of Marvin Methodist Church, including its sanctuary, date from 1890. The congregation grew from Tyler’s earliest Methodist movement and was initially part of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. It later belonged to the Methodist Church and then the United Methodist Church.

The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2000. Its surviving architecture offers a direct link to more than a century of Tyler’s religious history.
