Immaculate Conception Cathedral

The Immaculate Conception Cathedral, also known as Mulivai Cathedral, is the Catholic cathedral of Apia and the mother church of the Archdiocese of Samoa–Apia. The archdiocese was established in 1966 by Pope Paul VI.

The site’s original cathedral dates from 1857. After the building was damaged in the 2009 earthquake, it underwent a major restoration and extension. The reconstructed cathedral reopened on 2 June 2014, preserving the connection with the 19th-century church while creating the building visible today.

Museum of Samoa

The Museum of Samoa, or Falemata’aga, is one of the key places to visit in Apia to understand Samoa’s history and culture. The Samoan word falemata’aga means “museum”.

The building is part of the story. It was originally a school constructed by the German colonial administration, and it now houses a museum devoted to Samoa’s own heritage. Visiting it brings together two layers of the country’s past: the colonial history represented by the building and the Samoan history presented inside.

Apia Park

Apia Park is a multi-purpose sports complex in the centre of the city and the home stadium of Samoa’s national rugby union team, Manu Samoa. Rugby is central to the stadium’s identity, particularly when the national team plays on home soil.

The complex also hosts association football and is the home ground of Manuma Samoa. Its facilities include a gymnasium, tennis courts and a netball court, making Apia Park an important sporting hub rather than a venue dedicated to one sport alone. The main stadium holds around 8,000 spectators.

Apia Samoa Temple

The Apia Samoa Temple is a temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Pesega, just outside Apia. It was the first temple built in Samoa and the third in Polynesia.

The project was announced on 15 October 1977, and the groundbreaking ceremony took place on 19 February 1981. The original temple was dedicated on 5 August 1983. Its modern design includes a single spire finished in granite and a statue of the angel Moroni at the top.

A fire destroyed the original building on 9 July 2003. The temple was rebuilt on the same site, with a larger floor area and an improved layout. The rebuilt structure offers a visible reminder of the site’s religious importance and its reconstruction after the fire.
