The Bucas Islands are an island group in Surigao del Norte, in the southeastern part of the Philippines. Their setting reflects the network of islands and waterways that defines the region around Socorro.

Dahakit Point

Dahakit Point is a coastal landmark on Bucas Grande Island. Coves, small islands and inlets shape the surrounding landscape. The ground is relatively flat to the northwest and hillier toward the southeast, while the nearest sea lies to the southwest. Nearby land rises to about 155 metres roughly one and a half kilometres east of the point.

Kanlanuk Bay

Kanlanuk Bay combines open water with cultivated land. Farmland covers much of the area around the bay, making it a useful place to notice how Socorro’s coastal landscape connects the sea with the land.

Bucas Point

Butoaonan Island and the Dahikan Islets

Butoaonan Island is a small island in Surigao del Norte. Nearby, the Dahikan Islets form another island group in the same province and region. Together, they show the fragmented geography of the area, where small islands sit among bays and channels.

Kanin Bay

Kanin Bay is another bay in Surigao del Norte, within Caraga. It lies about 800 kilometres southeast of Manila and forms part of the same island-and-water setting around Socorro.

Bobon Islet and Kalunis Point

Bobon Islet is a small island in Surigao del Norte. Close by, Kalunis Point extends from Bucas Grande Island into a landscape of bays, island groups and coves.

The land around Kalunis Point is relatively flat to the southwest and hillier toward the northeast. The sea lies closest to the southwest, while the highest nearby ground reaches about 99 metres approximately one kilometre east of the point.

Maharlika Nation

Maharlika Nation is an organization based in Surigao del Norte. It describes itself as representing the “Maharlikan people” and operates within the jurisdiction and laws of the Philippines.

Manao Point

Manao Point is a coastal landmark on Bucas Grande Island. Its surroundings open onto bays, channels, islands and coves. The terrain is mostly hilly but becomes flatter toward the south, while the nearest sea lies to the northwest. Nearby ground rises to about 155 metres roughly one kilometre east of the point.

Port Batuecas

Port Batuecas is a destination in Surigao del Norte, set among a landscape where coves and island groups are especially common. It provides another reference point for understanding the waterways around Socorro.

Nakiauit Point

Nakiauit Point brings together flat land, hills and sea. The ground is mostly flat to the southwest, rising into hills toward the east. The nearest sea lies to the southwest, and the highest nearby ground reaches 104 metres about one kilometre to the northeast.

Nihisingan Point offers a sparsely populated coastal setting. The land is generally flat toward the southeast, while hills rise toward the northeast. The sea lies to the west, and the highest nearby ground reaches about 60 metres roughly one kilometre to the southeast.

Nilusingan Point is nearby and has a similar landscape: low ground toward the southeast, hills toward the northeast and the sea to the west. Both points convey the open, lightly populated character of this part of Surigao del Norte.
