Exploring Pardubice’s highlights
Church of Saint Bartholomew
Located at the corner of Republic Square and Kostelní Street, the Church of Saint Bartholomew (Svatý Bartoloměj) is a principal landmark of Pardubice. This Roman Catholic parish church is protected as a cultural monument and, in the sixteenth century, served as the second burial place of the Pernštejn family.
Pardubice Castle
Just beside the historic centre, Pardubice Castle (zámek Pardubice) is a remarkable Renaissance residence that blends castle and palace qualities. First mentioned in 1318, it was enlarged under Arnošt of Pardubice in the fourteenth century and later rebuilt in late Gothic style by William of Pernštejn after 1491. The entrance portal with its stone bridge dates from 1543, and inside the knights’ halls and Wojciech Hall are among the most valuable features. The castle now houses the East Bohemian Museum and the East Bohemian Gallery.
Art Space NOV (Gočárova galerie)
This museum focuses on collecting, preserving and presenting fine art. It began in 1953 as the Regional Gallery in Pardubice, became independent in the 1960s and adopted the name East Bohemian Gallery in Pardubice. Since January 2023 it has been known as Gočárova galerie, with its main exhibition space in the renovated Winternitz Mills and a second venue at the House at Jonah (Dům U Jonáše).
East Bohemian Museum in Pardubice
Situated within the rooms of Pardubice Castle, the museum brings together local history, art, science and everyday objects. Founded in 1880, it played a key role in saving the castle after 1920 and the castle became a National Cultural Monument in 2010. Permanent exhibitions include the castle’s knights’ halls, Czech glass and the history of glassmaking, military and hunting firearms, old postcards (Orbis pictus) and Bohemian coins from 1520 to 1620.

Museum MHD a železnice (Rosice nad Labem)
Housed in a former waterworks building at the Pardubice Rosice nad Labem railway station, this museum tells the story of urban public transport and railway history. The building, a cultural monument dating from 1871, opened as a museum in autumn 2001 after restoration. It is run by the Pardubice Association for the History of Railway Transport, which has been collecting objects since 1990. The collection includes items linked to the Pardubice region and nearby railway lines, with new exhibits added each year and occasional historic train and trolleybus rides.
Památník Zámeček
Located in Pardubičky, this memorial stands on the site of a Nazi execution ground from the Second World War. It commemorates the victims of that period and honours those who resisted. The execution ground was established at a former military firing range during martial law after the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich in 1942.
Green Tower (Zelená brána)
The Green Tower is a distinctive landmark that forms a gateway into Pardubice’s urban heritage reserve. Actually two structures—a Renaissance foregate and the actual gateway with its tower—the combined complex rises 59 metres above the city. Both parts were rebuilt into their present form by Jan of Pernstein after a fire in 1538. The tower is open to visitors and offers views across Pardubice and beyond, marking the start and end of the Vilém of Pernstein sightseeing route through the heritage reserve.
