Christian Science Society

The Christian Science Society is a small historic log church on Oak Street near the corner of 7th. The building dates from 1934 and was constructed from logs on a rubble rock foundation, with a shingle roof.

Its Rustic architecture reflects the natural, handcrafted style associated with national park lodges across the American West. Local builder Ernest Campbell designed and built the church. The society itself was organized on July 22, 1908, by local Christian Scientists, including founding member Margaret Crawford.

For more than twenty-five years, members met in different locations around town. The land where the church now stands was purchased in 1920 and had previously been the site of the Onyx Hotel. The building offers a small but distinctive connection to Steamboat Springs’ early community history.
