Fécamp Abbey also has an important connection with Bénédictine: it is known as the first producer of the herbal liqueur based on brandy.

Château de Fécamp

The Château de Fécamp, also called the Palais Ducal, survives as the remains of a fortified site. The stronghold was built on a raised mound in the tenth century, and the ruins continue to mark an important part of Fécamp’s past.

The castle stands in the commune of Fécamp, in the Seine-Maritime department of Normandy. Its ruins have been protected as historic monuments since an order dated 26 October 1910.

St-Étienne de Fécamp

The Church of Saint Étienne is one of Fécamp’s historic Catholic landmarks. Built in the sixteenth century, it reflects the town’s long religious and architectural history.

The building still houses the distillery and its cellars. It also contains a museum with a varied collection, including carved ivories, coins, locks and historic religious paintings. For many visitors, the Palais Bénédictine is one of the most distinctive places to visit in Fécamp.

Musée des Pêcheries

At the heart of Fécamp’s port, the Musée des Pêcheries occupies a former cod-drying facility that belonged to the fishing company Les Pêcheries de Fécamp. The city museum brings together collections devoted to visual arts, childhood and the history of the town’s traditional fishing activities.

The museum opened in December 2017. Its location and collections make it an important place for understanding the maritime identity of Fécamp, beyond the town’s religious and ducal monuments.

Musée des Terre-Neuvas

The former Musée des Terre-Neuvas et de la Pêche was devoted to Fécamp’s fishing heritage. It opened in 1988 and closed in 2012, after which its collections were brought together at Les Pêcheries in December 2017.

The museum’s history remains part of Fécamp’s wider museum story. Les Pêcheries holds the official Musée de France designation and now brings together the town’s fishing-related collections.
