What to see in Agadir

Musée de Géologie

The Musée de Géologie is one of Agadir’s museums and a stop for visitors interested in the geological history of the region. It offers a way to place the city within the broader landscapes of southern Morocco.

La Médina d’Agadir

La Médina d’Agadir is another cultural stop in the city. Its name recalls Agadir’s medina heritage and makes it a natural part of an itinerary focused on the city’s history and identity.

Agadir Amazigh Culture Museum

The Agadir Amazigh Culture Museum is a window into the heritage of the Souss region. Its collections present both urban and rural Amazigh life through objects connected with everyday households, traditional crafts and economic activities.

The museum opened on 29 February 2000 under the oversight of Agadir’s municipal council. It may also be listed as the Museum of Amazigh Culture in Agadir; both names refer to the same museum.

The former Souss-Massa-Drâa region

The territory once known as Souss-Massa-Drâa provides useful geographical and historical context for Agadir. From 1997 to 2015, it was officially one of Morocco’s sixteen regions, covering more than 70,000 square kilometres—nearly a tenth of the country’s total area.

The region was known for tourism and agriculture, as well as argan oil, produced in a distinctive local tradition. Agadir served as its regional capital throughout its existence. In 2015, Morocco reorganised its regions, dividing Souss-Massa-Drâa to create the present-day Drâa-Tafilalet and Souss-Massa regions.

Adrar Stadium

Around 15 minutes from Agadir’s city centre, Adrar Stadium is a large modern football venue and an important regional space for sport and entertainment. It is the home ground of Hassania Agadir and also hosts Moroccan national team matches, CAF and FIFA fixtures, and major concerts.

The stadium holds around 46,000 spectators, including approximately 10,000 covered seats. Construction plans date back to 2003, while work resumed in 2007. The venue opened in October 2013 with a friendly match between Hassania Agadir and Algeria’s JS Kabylie.

Adrar Stadium has since hosted events including the 2013 FIFA Club World Cup and the 2018 African Nations Championship. It stands on a 47-hectare site near the Atlas Mountains, roughly half an hour from the airport.

Agadir Catholic Church

Agadir Catholic Church is a Christian place of worship in the city. It offers a different perspective on Agadir’s religious and architectural landscape alongside its mosques and museums.

La grande mosquée d’Agadir

La grande mosquée d’Agadir is one of the city’s mosques and another notable religious landmark. It forms part of Agadir’s varied urban landscape, where modern city life sits alongside important places of worship.

Mohammed V Mosque of Agadir

The Mohammed V Mosque stands in Agadir’s city centre, in the Talborjt neighbourhood. It is the second-largest mosque in Morocco, after the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca, and can accommodate roughly 5,000 worshippers.

Construction began in June 1988, and the mosque was inaugurated on 28 February 1992. Its two levels—a ground floor and an underground floor—together provide space for around 5,000 people.
