What to See in Fullerton
Fox Fullerton Theatre
The Fox Fullerton Theatre, also known simply as the Fox Theatre, stands on Harbor Boulevard and dates back to Fullerton’s entertainment scene of the 1920s. Built in 1925 as part of the Fox Theatres chain, it was designed for both vaudeville performances and silent movies.
The building follows an Italian Renaissance theme. Its original design included a one-story retail wing and a two-story café, details that reflect the theatre’s role as more than just a cinema. The Fox Theatre closed and was abandoned in 1987. Today, the Fullerton Historic Theatre Foundation is raising funds to restore it, preserving the possibility that this historic venue may once again become part of the city’s cultural life.
Fullerton First Methodist Episcopal Church
On North Pomona Avenue, the Fullerton First Methodist Episcopal Church is an important example of Late Gothic Revival architecture. Built in 1909, the church is especially recognizable for its square bell tower, topped by a crenellated parapet.
The building measures about 40 by 82 feet, or roughly 12 by 25 metres. Its history includes several names and uses: it has also been known as the Holycity Bethesda Full Gospel Church, the Seventh Day Adventist Church and the Church of Religious Science. By 2000, it was a Centers for Spiritual Living church.
The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2001 under the name Fullerton First Methodist Episcopal Church. For visitors interested in historic architecture, it offers a compact look at Fullerton’s religious and urban heritage.
Fullerton Train Museum
The Fullerton Train Museum focuses on the importance of rail travel to the local community. It is part of a broader railway story connected to the Fullerton Transportation Center, a major Orange County transportation hub.
The transportation centre is served by Amtrak trains, Metrolink lines and the OC Bus system. Together, the museum and the transport hub highlight the continuing importance of trains and public transportation in Fullerton. They also provide a different perspective on the city, beyond its theatres and historic buildings.
STAGEStheatre
STAGEStheatre played a distinctive role in Orange County’s theatre history. The nonprofit venue was the county’s oldest storefront theatre and presented hundreds of productions during its long-running programme.
Based in Fullerton, the theatre operated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organisation. Its history makes it a notable stop for anyone exploring the city’s performing-arts heritage and the local venues that have supported live theatre.
