What to See in Mason

Kings Island

Kings Island is a major amusement park in Mason, northeast of Cincinnati. It is known for high-speed roller coasters, family-friendly attractions, water rides, and seasonal events.

The park’s notable roller coasters include Orion, Banshee, Diamondback, Mystic Timbers, Flight of Fear, The Bat, Invertigo, and Adventure Express. Its attractions also include a log flume, a rafting experience, and a boat ride with a dramatic descent.

Kings Island is not only for thrill-seekers. Families and younger visitors can find gentler rides and entertainment, while food and refreshments often feature brands associated with Cincinnati and Ohio. That regional touch adds local character to a full day at the park.

Mason County Courthouse Memorial

The Mason County Courthouse is a historic landmark with a story of destruction and renewal. Built between 1909 and 1910, it reopened in 2024 after extensive renovations.

Its architecture is especially distinctive. A gable-front portico stands on each of the building’s four sides, and each portico is supported by four two-story Doric columns. Together, these elements give the courthouse a strong, balanced appearance.

On the evening of February 4, 2021, an arsonist’s fire destroyed the courthouse, leaving only the stone exterior. County records had already been moved elsewhere to allow future renovations, and the building was later restored mostly to its original appearance.

Today, the courthouse is a contributing property in the Mason Historic District, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. It is a useful stop for understanding Mason’s architectural heritage and the effort behind the building’s restoration.
