Church of the Holy Cross, Crediton

The Church of the Holy Cross, formally the Collegiate Church of the Holy Cross and the Mother of Him Who Hung Thereon, is a Grade I listed building. It stands on the site of Crediton’s former cathedral; the nave and chancel date from the fifteenth century, reflecting its medieval origins. After the bishop’s seat moved to Exeter in 1050, a college of canons remained here until the English Reformation, when the church was surrendered to Henry VIII in 1545 and later acquired by the Crediton Town Corporation, which still administers the building. Today it serves as the parish church, held in trust for the parish by the Governors of Crediton.
