Explore Bol’s Highlights

Located just off the main promenade inside a stone palace dating from the late 1600s, the Branislav Dešković Gallery opened in 1963 and holds over three hundred works of contemporary Croatian art. The permanent collection features artists such as Ivan Meštrović, Edo Murtić, Oton Postružnik, Emanuel Vidović, Raoul Goldoni and Ivo Dulčić. The palace’s stone walls and vaulted ceilings give the space an intimate atmosphere that blends historic architecture with modern art.

Church of Saint Vitus (Crkva Sv. Vida)

About fifty metres west of the large Christ the Redeemer cross on Vidova Gora’s summit stands the modest stone ruin of the Church of Saint Vitus. Dating to the thirteenth century and built in the Romanesque style, only its simple, sturdy lines remain today, offering a quiet reminder of the mountain’s medieval past.

Monumental Cross to Christ the Redeemer on Vidova Gora

At 778 metres above sea level, Vidova Gora is the highest peak on Brač and the highest point of all the Adriatic islands. The summit is marked by a twelve‑metre‑high cross carved from the island’s white Brač marble, erected in 1998 to replace an earlier cross from 1934. Around the base lie the remnants of an Illyrian hillfort and the ruins of a small thirteenth‑century Romanesque church dedicated to Saint Vid, the namesake of the mountain.

Fishermen Sculpture

Near the waterfront, the Fishermen sculpture pays tribute to the generations of fishermen whose work has shaped life in Bol. The piece serves as a reminder of the town’s maritime heritage.

Church of St. John and Teodor

In the centre of Bol stands the Church of St. John and Teodor, a modest religious building that reflects the town’s long‑standing ecclesiastical tradition.
