Mineral and Lapidary Museum
The Mineral and Lapidary Museum is a distinctive stop in the middle of Hendersonville’s Historic District. Its collection and exhibits focus on minerals and the lapidary arts, making it a focused introduction to the world of rocks, gems, and stone craftsmanship.
The museum is a nonprofit organization run by volunteers. It was founded in 1997 and is located at 400 North Main Street in Hendersonville.
Henderson County Courthouse
The Historic Henderson County Courthouse is one of Hendersonville’s most recognisable landmarks. Its three-story brick building and gold dome reflect the Classical Revival style, while the building now houses the Henderson County Heritage Museum and government offices.
The courthouse was Henderson County’s second courthouse. English architect Richard Sharp Smith designed it; he had been the resident architect of the Biltmore Estate after the death of Richard Morris Hunt. Local builder W. F. Edwards began construction in 1904, and the building was completed in July 1905.
The courthouse remained in active service until a new courthouse opened at 200 North Grove Street in 1995. The historic building then closed for renovations before being restored. On May 10, 1979, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places, and it is also part of the Main Street Historic District.
