Jianshan Temple

Located in the Moon Hill Scenic Area just outside Yangshuo, Jianshan Temple is the largest Han Buddhist temple in Guangxi. The complex follows a Tang‑dynasty imitation style, with sweeping roofs, bracketed eaves, and a symmetrical layout covering about fourteen thousand square metres. Visitors pass through the shanmen gate before reaching the Mahavira Hall, which houses the principal Buddhas. Beyond the main hall lie a meditation room for quiet practice and a dining hall where monks take their meals in silence. The temple was built to serve as a major centre for Buddhist teaching in southern China, making its architecture and spiritual purpose closely intertwined.

South China Karst
