What to see in Bangli
Pura Kehen
Pura Kehen is a major Hindu temple in Bali, located in the village of Cempaga in Bangli Regency. It is also known as Pura Hyang Api, or the Temple of Fire: in Balinese, kehen means “fire.”
The temple stands out because of its entrance. Rather than the classic candi bentar, the split gateway found at many Balinese temples, Pura Kehen uses a Kori Agung, a covered gateway. This gives the approach a character that is unusual among Bali’s temples.
Another memorable feature is the Bale Kulkul, a wooden pavilion containing a slit drum. The pavilion is perched on the trunk of a banyan tree, creating one of the temple’s most distinctive sights. Together, the Kori Agung and the tree-mounted Bale Kulkul make Pura Kehen a particularly notable place to visit in Bangli.
Bangli is part of Bali, the Indonesian island known for its Hindu temples and cultural heritage. If you are planning a wider trip around the island, you can also explore Denpasar, Canggu or Kuta, Bali.
