Santa Teresa Gallura and its landscape

Santa Teresa Gallura is the chief town of its municipality. It stands 44 metres above sea level, in surroundings that combine the sea, beaches, coves, bays and nearby islands.

The land around the town is mostly flat, becoming hillier towards the south. The nearest sea is to the northwest, while the highest nearby point reaches 167 metres, around 2.8 kilometres southeast of the town. Mixed woodland covers much of the surrounding area, adding another layer to the coastal scenery.

Lu Brandali nuragic complex

In the Santa Reparata area, the Lu Brandali nuragic complex brings together several traces of prehistoric life in one archaeological site. It includes a nuraghe with an outer defensive wall, a Nuragic village and a giant’s tomb.

The site also contains tafone tombs and shelters beneath the rock. Together, these remains show both the community that lived here and its burial traditions. The complex was used between the Recent Bronze Age, around the fourteenth century BCE, and the beginning of the Final Bronze Age, around the tenth century BCE.

Lu Brandali has not been completely excavated, so part of its story remains concealed. Seven structures have been identified in the settlement, along with a separate round building at the southern edge of the site. The nuraghe is a protonuraghe, with the remains of an outer wall and two towers.

Chiesa della Madonna del Buoncammino

The Chiesa della Madonna del Buoncammino is a rural church in the territory of Santa Teresa Gallura. It stands on the site of an earlier medieval structure, while the present building was completely reconstructed during the first years of the twentieth century.

The church remains dedicated to Catholic worship as part of the parish of San Vittorio, in the Diocese of Tempio-Ampurias. Its most distinctive detail is the central dome, whose entire surface is covered in copper. This feature dates from major restoration work carried out between 1950 and 1951.
