Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption, Pelplin

This Gothic brick church is one of Poland’s largest medieval churches, originally built as the church of a Cistercian monastery and now serving as the cathedral of the Diocese of Pelplin. Inside, decoration spans the fifteenth to eighteenth centuries, with numerous side altars, choir stalls, a pulpit, side organs and a monumental main altarpiece of gilded wood that rises twenty‑five metres high – the largest in Poland. The former monastery complex, including a four‑sided cloister garden, surrounds the building, and the site was designated a Historic Monument of Poland in May 2014. The cathedral also preserves a rare copy of the Gutenberg Bible.

Bishop’s Palace in Pelplin

The Bishop’s Palace, known in Polish as Pałac Biskupi, stands within the Bishop’s Gardens. Built in the nineteenth century in a Neo‑Romanesque style, it was remodelled in the 1920s in a Neoclassical style and served as the residence of the Pelplin bishops (and, until 1992, of the Chełmno bishops).

Corpus Christi Church, Pelplin

Situated beside the bishop’s curia and the Cathedral Basilica, this Gothic church dates from around 1417. In the second half of the seventeenth century it became the parish church for the village settlement that grew up around the monastery.
